Ilkka Suppanen, born in Kotka Finland, has studied architecture at the Technical University of Helsinki and Interior and Furniture Design at the University of Art and Design Helsinki. In 1995, he founded Studio Suppanen in Helsinki. The studio offers integrated strategic design in the fields of interior, product and concept design and architecture.

Ilkka Suppanen is working both architecture and design. Hehas taught design at the University of Art and Design Helsinki since 1996. He has held lectures and taught in several universities including Harward University.  He is one of the best-known contemporary Finnish designers. Ilkka Suppanen has also received many international awards, most recently the Swedish Bruno Mathsson Prize and Red Dot Best of the Best awards. In 1997, he founded the Snowcrash design cooperative together with three colleagues and in the same year Snowcrash team got the Young Designer of the Year Award in Germany and Young Finland Prize.

Suppanen’s work has been exhibited worldwide including shows at the Venice Architecture Biennale, and the MoMA in New York. His works have been widely reported by the international press and publications. His works are part of the permanent collections of the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and the Museum für Angewandte Kunst in Cologne, Center Georges Pompidou and others

He continues working from his studio with several projects all around the world.
 

Ilkka Suppanen on syntynyt Kotkassa. Hän opiskeli arkkitehtuuria Helsingin Teknillisessä korkeakoulussa ja sisustusarkkitehtuuria Taideteollisessa korkeakoulussa. Vuonna 1995 hän perusti Studio Suppasen, joka tarjoaa integroitua strategista muotoilua sisustus-, tuote- ja konseptisuunnittelun ja arkkitehtuurin aloilla.

Ilkka Suppanen työskentelee sekä arkkitehtuurin että muotoilun aloilla. Hän on opettanut muotoilua Taideteollisessa korkeakoulussa vuodesta 1996, jonka lisäksi hän on luennoinut ja opettanut useissa yliopistoissa mm. Harvardin yliopistossa. Hän on yksi tunnetuimmista nykyajan suomalaisista muotoilijoista. Ilkka Suppanen on saanut useita kansainvälisesti merkittäviä muotoilupalkintoja, viimeksi Ruotsin Bruno Mathsson- ja Red Dot Best of the Best palkinnon. Vuonna 1997 Ilkka Suppasen yhdessä kolmen kollegansa kanssa perustaman Snowcrash –suunnittelukollektiivi palkittiin perustamisvuonna Young Dedigner of the Year –palkinnolla ja sai Nuori Suomi –palkinnon.
Suppasen muotoilua on ollut esillä ympäri maailmaa mm. näyttelyjä Venetsian Architecture Biennalessa ja MoMAssa New Yorkissa ja esitelty kansainvälisessä lehdistössä ja julkaisuissa. Hänen muotoilutuotteitaan kuuluu pysyviin kokoelmiin Stedelijk Museumissa Amsterdamissa ja Museum für Angewandte Kunst’issa Kölnissä, Center Georges Pompidoussa jne.

Tällä hetkellä Ilkka Suppanen jatkaa työtään useissa projekteissa ympäri maailmaa.
